They really weren't (Gerarrd and Lampard cm combo was dreadful). England have been full of overrated media stars that didn't fit in a team together but were persisted with with as image rights and media pressure means more than team success. Whilst our best performing players in major competitions have included lesser hyped players such Barry and Hargreaves. We haven't been a good team since we qualified in Rome for 98.
Their track record in finals proves they were better than this lot.

Only competition some of this lot have had is in the previous Euro's in which we had to carry the last of the past it media stars in Rooney (in cm!) and that selfish mindless idiot Sturridge. These two chosen ahead of more talented players who are consistent performers when called upon for England in Wilshere ( had many MOTMs leading up to it) and Lallana ( has been England's most consistent player in recent years).

We still need to get rid of Hart and Cahill.

Wilshere not starting in the Euros was an absolute joke considering how well he played all throughout the qualifiers. Woy also bizarrely abandoned the midfield diamond which helped them to a perfect qualification campaign.

A lot of these players ( Seamen, Cole, Terry and Nevile aside) were awful for England and failed to produce anywhere near their club form for country. I am glad to see the back of most of them.
o_O Beckham, Scholes, Rooney and Owen didn't exactly do bad! They all had their fair share of good games actually. There were problems with the midfield trying to fit them all in, but as individuals--all of them--they're about 3 clear levels above this lot, bar Kane. Problem was they never produced at the majors. As players, they were all world class (Neville's debatable), compared to how many now? Kane?... That's the point I'm making.

What the **** happened? :(

As a neutral should have gone Lampard-Carrick-Hargreaves midfield. Gerrard most overrated player I've seen.

I'm just throwing names on paper! I think Gerrard was a great player, if not for England. Well, he wasn't a great player for England, period! The 3 you put up made a far more functional unit no doubt.

Hargreaves was hurt most of the time -- I would have played a midfield 3 of Lampard, Scholes, and Carrick. Scholes retired after loss to Portugal though, I think.

Lallana is injured I think and Jack can't get a full game for Arsenal, though I would pick him because he is much better than others in the squad. We'll have to agree to disagree and see what happens with this lot next summer, but I'm not expecting much.

Calling Beckham world class is a big stretch for very limited player who was just a dead ball specialist. Beckham was poor for England with the exception of one free kick agaisnst Greece. I also argue Owen world class? Owen never got 20 league goals.

Personally thought Gerrard was always one of England's better players in major tournaments. Apart from 2004 (and hitting the crossbar v Germany) I can't remember much from Lampard.

Ffs Scotland...

We'll finally get a chance of glory in the new UEFA League of Nations when we are in the bottom division and have a group with San Marino and Malta. :p

Hampden hosts Euro 2020. So does half of the continent but geez a break UEFA: auto-qualification for hosts!

Arsenal Quotes

What does Arsenal mean? It means class. The structure of the Club, everything has a classy feel about it. It isn't always about success, there is more than that and this is what makes it a cut above the rest.
