Apparently we were supposed to sign Atletico Midfielder Saúl Ñiguez, but the deal was cancelled because Tiago Mendes got injured.

say yes

If he's that good, and they were willing to sell him in January to us anyway - surely we just give them more dolla?

Can't believe one injury would wreck a deal like this.

On Saúl Ñiguez:

If this deal really is being cancelled, that's really bad news. I barely knew about him, but have just done research (not highlight reels, I'm not *) and he looks like everything we've been looking for as a Ramsey partner.

He is a true DLP, and unlike Xhaka he isn't so reckless in tackling that he picks up cards every game. He passes well, forward often, and is only 20 so there are still great heights he can reach, impressive because he already has a very good level. Gutted.

Well first off I read through all 6 pages before commenting. I'm happy to see we are not freaking out over our striker situation (that can be handled ned summer) we really need a CDM and a quality one that could step right in. Now, that we have Barca coming up and a close 2.5 team (the .5 team is Leicester, they look real but I'm not sold on them just yet) race for top of the premiership, we really need to strengthen our defense while we wait on Le Coq. I'm not even confident that our medical staff will have him ready by March, so a CDM is a must. Fingers crossed that Wenger splashes some cash in this difficult time to pry players mid-season from teams.

Arsenal. I'm worried he won't develop under Simeone. Under Wenger he could hit generational level, the lad is an absolute baller. Really hope we don't sign anyone in January so we can pick him up in the summer.

So your advice for Wenger would be:

Better call Saul ;)

But why not in January? Is the injury situation at Athletico that bad?

I hope we dont wait until the end of the window if we bring someone in. From the looks of that interview we have someone lined up.

Mirror linking us with Brozovic, saying that Chelsea had a deal pretty much agreed but now the specialist in failure has been sacked the deal is off - and we are ready to pounce.

Bit confusing though as I believe he is in a season long loan so not sure how that would affect/disrupt a possible transfer. I know he is not really a true DM, but I think AW is looking for someone who can sit deep and control play.

Well now the latest injury revelations shows we're incredibly low on numbers, return dates:

Wilshere - Late Jan but could be out longer, basically Diaby now except Diaby was maybe a tad less injury prone
Welbz -Feb, but rumours of a season out?
Cazorla - April?
Coq - March but maybe later?
Arteta - ????

For the middle 3 that leaves us with:

Özil
Ramsey
Flamini
Chamberlain

2 of which aren't really ideal and then we're onto youth players like Chambers and Adelaide. Because 2 of them will go down in the next 2 months.

This season depends on Özil and Ramsey staying fit, if either go down we can kiss the title goodbye pretty much.

We need to go big for Rabiot, I'm talking 30M. Usually I would be the first one shutting down such a suggestion but I'm very very confident he's the real deal. He's young yes but that doesn't matter because he's good enough to play for us right now, if anything his young age is a bonus.

Yup agree with all of this, it is absolutely VITAL we sign a DM, there is absolutely no way we get through the rest of the system with the current bodies we have. Apart from Sanchez, the rest of our injuries are all either long term and/or incredibly unreliable players, so basically there are no fresh reinforcements on the horizon.

Another winger could be important, unless Wenger is serious about giving Iwobi more game time as he didn't send him away on loan.

League is very weak
Rabiot is very highly rated within PSG, he's a Paris guy too.

I'm sure he's said he'll stay for the rest of his career as long as he plays.

To me the Rabiot situation is reminiscent of Sakho who found himself in a similar situation. A young guy with massive talent who needs game time, to take himself to the next level and avoid plateauing, and has clubs who are actively chasing him and offering that but with each passing window he remains at PSG, waiting, the more the chance it will pass him by and he may end up regretting not moving on quicker.

I think we need someone who can also play as a B2B/DLP. If Özil or Ramsey go down we only have Chamberlain and Alexis who can play in those positions.

Actually I forgot Rosicky, but when is he back?
