uh, hes a LM for his club, occasionally a wingback in a 3-5-2. hiddink put him at LB for the national team.

anyway, i'm not convinced hes enough of a goal threat. anyone have stats from the last couple of seasons?

good player, really liked him overlapping as a LB and seemed solid defensively, but havent seen enough of him to have an informed opinion as to whether he'd be up to scratch as a LM.

My russian friend in one of my physics classes (who's a CSKA and Arsenal fan) says that Zirkhov's the real deal. His showing at the Euro was apparently pretty much how he generally plays in the League, minus the switch in position.

Would love him here.

Hes a very good leftback, but not a very good winger. It would be great to have him as back-up for Clichy, but at the moment we have far more important positions to cover then that of Clichy's back-up. I don't know from where it is that some of you get the idea that just because a player is a full back he can play as a winger as well, I've heard people on here mention the possibility of Traore, Gibbs, Clichy, Touré, Sagna, Eboue and now this guy being possible options on the wings. The only thing full backs and wingers have in common, in most cases, is that they both occupy the left side of the field.

Uh, he's actually a natural left winger played as a left back for Russian NT. He was possibly one of CSKA best player when we played them in CL last season.

Anyway, Setanta got that from Russian 'Your Day' newspaper who broke the news yesterday, a quite reliable paper. Of course, they also linked us to Nikola Kalinic a couple of days ago which doesn't look likely anymore.

Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger has been watching Nikola for about a year. French specialist believes Kalinic as one of the most powerful young forwards in Europe.

-- Kalinic - A forward with the instinct of killers - said Wenger. -- He's still very young, so I think he has a huge future. But that progress in his game continued, Nikola should move to a strong championship.

Realizing that growing demand for the player, directing Hajduk appointed a better price for their forward - ten million euros, and and not penny less.

Very good player, comfortable on the ball, a real team player, always on the move and can beat a man as well.

Wenger liked him when he commentated on French TV during the Euro. He said he was impressed by how fit he was. Apparently he's already played against Arsenal (can't remember when though) and Wenger said his fitness really impressed him back then.

Oh ok, thanks. Oh yeah the very impressive 0-0. One of the best draw I've seen in recent times. Didn't know Zhirkov was involved in these two games.

These are the kind of signings we need to be making imo.

I liked him in the Euros, one of Russias better players.
He would add balance and natural width to our midfield, and suitable cover for Clichy. This is a signing I would be happy about.

I dont think the CSKA turned out for the 0-0 draw, i cant remember anyone there except vagnor love giving a lesson to gallas, however in the 1-0 loss, they were all really impressive as a team, especially carvalho, d.u.d.u and zhirkov

Its true actually, Yuri is a raiding athlete with high Fitness levels.

Very energetic with creativity. Wouldnt mind him either in our squad. He seems the type, when the chips are down, hell pick up his game and offer us an escape route or help break teams down

Many people only notice him when he played for Russia at leftback, but he is never a leftback.

He is a natural winger, sometimes played as wingback in 3-5-2 formation. Due to russia's lack of talented leftback he is used there.

Would be a very good signing for us. I was really impressed by him when he played against us for CSKA

Dont know if anybodys mentioned this, its just a minor point, but would it be a possibility that Wenger would bring in two Russians, so as to help each other settle in? If Ade and Hleb go we could have vacancies for two attacking players - could it be two of three from Zhirkov, Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko?

I doubt it, because it would be a massive, massive risk. Two players, who have played well for their national teams, but play in the Russian League. And both would command a pretty large fee.

imo he should have done that with modric and eduardo, no one heard of them back then and together would've probebly cost a combined 20m if not less.

I think we did try for both, but Zagreb weren't willing to let both of their best players leave in one summer.
We most likely just took Eduardo because we needed him more at the time.

Im pretty sure Wenger noticed Modric and at least enquired about him.

can he shoot/finish?

i was impressed with his fitness as well, he runs all day. good call by hiddink to put him at LB, really added a lot to their attack down that left flank with arshavin dragging wide left as well.
