He's not as good as Sagna but I have a feeling Debuchy is gonna fit in well here. Left back looks better on paper but I see it as more of a weak spot than RB - mainly because Gibbs hasn't really kicked on and Monreal has been disappointing.

Feel a bit apprehensive for when he plays with Walcott on the right hand side. Sagna used to get no protection but still do an amazing job so it will be interesting to see how Debuchy will do who is a worse defender.

Wenger has said Sanchez will play on the right until Walcott is back. Sanchez works very hard defensively, so he should provide a good shield for Debuchy.

I'm not so sure about that, Suave. It's almost impossible to be certain of such a thing IMO. Fullbacks are hard to judge at the best of times. The system they're playing in can often make or break them. Dont get me wrong, when they're obviously atrocious, it's obvious, and likewise when they brilliant. But Sagna and Debuchy are neither.

Yup, completely agree. If a fullback is told to make overlaps and join the attack consistently, they will almost always end up chasing a counter-attack at some point. If another player is not in position to cover then they will look like they have exposed the team by being out of position.

I've played that position my whole life, and even at **** level this happens. You get told to press up and support, then when your CM coughs it up on the top of their box and they break everyone starts beaking at you for being out of position

Welcome to the full back club, I was a lefty.

Welcome to THE ARSENAL Matty.

Please excuse any errors as I'm using a new devise.

I hope we don't fiddle around too much with Sanchez' position, don't want to make him a jack of all trades..

I think it's more likely we'll see where Alexis is most productive for us and we'll fix others around to suite him (and to suite Özil) and keep with it. In saying Alexis has always been extremely productive no matter where he plays, as long as he isn't given a restricted role (i.e just told to stay wide, or stay up front on his own) he'll be extremely effective.

But yeah he'll certainly do a lot of hard work for the team which is a benefit most luxury players don't give a team.

Yes, because Wenger's renowned for giving players strict roles and not encouraging freedom of expression ;).

League is very weak
Decent signing from Wenger, Debuchy slots in straight away, no PL acclimitisation needed, 2 years to develop etc.

Notch down from Sagna, defensively, though.

Well even france dont play with specialist "DM's" and they did fine with debuchy at rb. And they had a guy shorter than santi on his wing as well who also doesnt hug the touchline

All about system

TBF, they played with three DM's.

What a steal this signing was!

Value wise not really, since we're paying 12 million for about 2-3 good years (not many fullbacks are top quality after the age of 32).

But none of that matters, the only thing that matters is his performance on the pitch, and if we end up winning the premier league/champions league and he makes a good contribution he will be worth every single penny.

Just like paying ~28 million (if you count the addons) for a 29 year old injury prone RVP seemed expensive at the time but when he practically won them the league he was deemed a bargain and nobody was looking at the price.

Saw a versus video against Man United that's been taken down where he bossed it. He closes the opposition down really quick.

Does anyone else feel like he is almost the most ideal replacement for our clubs mentality, and in terms of likely relationship and immediate familiarity with a lot of the squad.

He knows the premier league, has friends within the french national team at arsenal which would have to help. He has already been supplying Giroud with some tasty crosses at international level, and is at the right age to give us a fair few years for the investment. I felt like he was always an arsenal player waiting to happen.

Looks like a decent full back, I think Bellerin will have to a helluva job in training to claim this position.

"Surely what will be their last attack.

A good ball by Dixon, finding Smith for Thomas, charging through the midfield... It's up for grabs now! Thomas! Right at the end!

What an unbelievable climax to the League season"
