Would be interesting to ask Wenger and Gazidis what do they think about salaries of Özil, Laca and Mkhi these days

Wenger was against the Özil wage. Who was to know Laca would fall off like this.

Question for you though, isn’t this what we wanted? For years fans and media said we have to start paying these big wages to buy or keep stars. The club charge big prices for tickets, so they can give us big players who require big wages, was the demand.

The Özil contract was massively celebrated by fans when he signed it.

Reminder that while Chelsea and Utd got most of their money back on their clowns, we'll probably either be stuck with this guy or have to sell him cheap as chips since the people running the club have the same mentality as the "geniuses" who voted him and his 13 league goals PoTY worthy and couldn't shut up about his broship with Auba.

Laca was never suited for this league from the start, Mourinho guessed correctly that he was too slow. Something that apparently completely passed by our goons at Stat DNA and the 'diamond eye' hobo. Is it any wonder we are in the gutter?

It blows my mind they were able to get 80-90% (or whatever) back. Morata especially.

In a perverse sense, it is kind of a good thing that the club is willing / able to shell out that money. Now if only they’d sign actual star players instead of just star paycheques.

True, but it’s the job of the Arsenal board to do what’s best for the club, not for the fans. That means sometimes making unpopular decisions that push the club forward. Maybe some people would have cried but if we let Özil go and signed the next next attacking midfielder, we probably would have looked back that winter transfer window a lot differently.

Football fans don’t really know how to run a club, if you asked Arsenals fans from this forum to run Arsenal, we would probably plunge this club into massive debt and relegation. Our only real insight into running a club are through video games like Fifa and Football Manager, or speculative information. Thus, no good club should do what their fans want but what they need.

I know I never wanted Özil in the first place and was always saying Cazorla was a superior player, but yeah, we needed to prove that we can bring a big name to this club.

What's scary is the way we did it. The management who was just about to leave gave him a massive contract, brought in Mkhi who was also on a big contract, and then we did a mess buying Auba and Laca together while it was clear that will never work well, although we've tried a lot of combinations.

We all knew this club was doomed for the next 4-5 years until we get rid of some of the fat contracts and players.

The fans of this club are funny sometimes. I still remember arguing with people who were against youth last season and wanted to buy guys like fat Fraser instead. Would be interesting to ask the same people today what do they think about Saka and Fraser now :)

The same will go for Özil and Laca, I'm saying for a while now that we should focus on ESR and Eddie/Martinelli.

I definitely never thought that we would struggle to give them for free, especially Laca who did play well for the last 2 years, but I have no idea what happened this year and how a professional player can fall so quickly with all the coaches and stuff that can keep you fit.

Any decent football scout would have told you that this guy isn't good enough for the top level, which is why no one was interested when he was at Lyon, despite him being available season after season.

It was obvious he would be a dud, what other top level centre forwards are 5'9 with no physical qualities? It didn't take Wenger long to realise this either, it played a big part in the club decision to sign Auba imo.

I hate how people are acting like Lacazette is bad just now. His first season he was trash and Arsène kept dropping him, it's why we bought Auba and last season was basically a Giroud level season he got voted POTY for. This is his level, he's a bum.

Giroud was a much more useful player for us than Laca has ever been.

You can't blame wenger and Ivan about buying laca 100 goals in 3 seasons with lyon he was one of best strikers in Europe it's just didn't work for him here. I think he'll be open to return with lyon and won't rule out taking paycut to do that

Yeah Arsène keep taking him off at the 70th min. He has a knee injury that no one was aware off. Was never a box striker

This guy isn't the best. But he tracks back a lot, can hold the ball up and gets defenders to make mistakes. Never understood why Emery didn't play Auba, Laca and Pepe as a front 3 every week. They'd have finally got some understanding together, and there was enough fire power in Auba and Pepe to get the goals.

This is a myth, he looses the ball constantly, I counted he turned over possession 3 times in the opening 10 minutes yesterday alone.

He also is knackered after about 50 minutes each game, so literally can't track back. Again, just before the Brighton equaliser, watch how he just lets their centre halves bring the ball out of defence while he is just walking about (this should have been the signal for Arteta to take him off).

Arsenal Quotes

The only moment of possible happiness is the present. The past gives regrets. And future uncertainties. Man quickly realised this and created religion. It forgives him what he has done wrong in the past and tells him not to worry about the future, as you will go to paradise.
