League is very weak
Do you honestly believe Arteta, a manager who you say really likes Mesut, is letting the club decide whether he should be available to play?
Yeah, Raul has a track record of this.

It’s his style of operating and he’s entitled to it, I guess.

If we don’t get CL next season, then that must be it. 2 managers, 300-400M spent etc. 3 years without CL, under his stewardship, for us is a long time.

I’d consider binning Arteta too if he doesn’t make CL or at least top 6 next season. We can’t be manager training school.

Nobody got any reply to Özil actually not refusing the pay cut?

Also, Arsenal being the only club in the PL to ask it’s players to take a pay cut?

squad is **** bar a few. Massive rebuilding job and money needed. Hate all this get rid of mangers at a drop of a hat. If we are in relegation zone then fair enough

If he was a new player I would not mind, but a guy who is top earner.and been there for a good few years. Club looked after him when he wanted more money and he could not repay the favor on and off the pitch. Hardly a guy you would want to have in your plans for a rebuild.

I honestly believe this is Arteta’s call to not play him not Raul. Arteta comes across as a straight talking guy and there’s examples of him leaving players out if they are not onboard. He has also shown that he offers them a way back in if circumstances determine or effort has improved.

Seems some of you acolytes are trying too hard to shoot him some bail.

Oh and ofcourse he’s on the decline it’s silly to suggest otherwise the guy was undoubtedly WC until he won World Cup.

More important question to where Özil is or if he should be playing I think is who do we replace Özil with? It's clear he's not going to be much of a presence for us (if at all ever again).

No one can seriously argue that the team has enough creativity at the moment, we need either a player or a way of playing that can make us less stagnant when counters aren't working.

Thought so as well. But Arteta has been talking about cultural changes from the beginning, and said stuff such as either you're in or left out. Makes sense that he's the one with the final decision.

What do you mean he didn’t refuse? He was asked to take a pay cut with the rest of the squad and said no because he wanted to see how the pandemic played out. That’s refusing. The club are forecast over £100m in lost revenue and he still hasn’t said he’d take the pay cut. If the club did say “ok Mesut, we’ll let you see how the financial impact plays out” and then in 12 months time when they post £100m in losses will he give them back 12.5% of his wages? Of course he ****ing won’t, he’ll be out the door looking for his new club.

That’s one of the goals of the transfer window. Raul and co need to act fast. Chelsea are on the verge of signing Havartz, that’s one option gone.

It is interesting to note that people on here will say that Özil only ever shows up against weak teams but also that he wouldn't have helped today. But I digress...

Will also be interesting to see if Arsenal can win a trophy without Özil for the first time in 15 years (I predict: maybe).
