Arsène WENGER is lining up a £6million bid for Croatian wonder kid Tin Jedvaj.

The Arsenal boss is keen to pounce after Italian giants Roma failed with a £5m bid for the Dinamo Zagreb defender just days ago.
Jedvaj, 17, is the most highly-rated player from Croatia sin
ce midfielder Luka Modric.

He has already been called up to train with the full national squad despite his inexperience.

With Croatia’s World Cup qualification hopes in turmoil following a shock defeat to Scotland in the last match, Jedvaj is tipped to make his full international debut soon.

Wenger is also keen on Swansea centre-half and skipper Ashley Williams, 28, as a ready-made first-team option.

But the Gunners boss is unhappy at the Swans’ £10m valuation and sees Jedvaj as the long-term option.

With Vermaelen unlikely to leave and Djourou in negotiations with Hannover I think Jedvaj is a very likely signing

My post from the starlets thread:

Jedvaj is as good as you get at his age. One of the best defenders that came out of Dinamo Zagreb academy. And that academy is one of the best un the world. He is a ball carrying central defender thats versatile and has allready played as a right back and defensive midfielder. Hes debut was out of this world. In a match against Dinamos biggest rivals and one of the hottest stadiums to play at in the world he was voted man of the match. I was there, and was blown out. He is just one of those players that ouzes class every time he touches the ball. He is fast, reads the game well and has a good vertcal leap. Describing him realy sounds too god to be true, but having seen him for around 10 games this season I must say he IS that good. Last player that I wrote about here was Mateo Kovacic, and I really really wanted him here, despite his age. He is now allready central figure of Inter, and he will only get better.(He is a big Arsenal fan btw) To conclude, my opinion is that Jedvajs price has allready gone up to much for us to compete, but if you ask me if he is worth it, he definitely is...

'Jedvaj' could be a porno film starring one half of annoying Irish pop duo, 'Jedward'. Or it could be a mock up of Starwars, where Jedis are lesbians.

On that bombshell, I'm off to bed.

Has it? If Roma are bidding £5million I doubt he is going to cost £20million.
I think if we really wanted him we would get him.

Call me a cynic but it seems we are linked with the next young Croatian "superstar" every window and we never get one, I suspect we are having our name thrown around by agents to drive up the price. Id be happy to be wrong though

Can't make his mind up
He's very 'steely', as you put, for a 17 year old. He plays with a lot of hunger and energy, and like Eduardo said, he's very good with the ball at his feet. For me, he's a bit of an unnatural CB, I think he has a better future on the right side. He definitely has potential to be very very good one day though.

I can hear the commentator saying, after he scores the first goal in a game,
"Tin Opener."

I'm not sure if he has played for a while so he is probably a bit rusty, but if we bid more than 5m this deal is in the can.

Sorry about that.

10m to much for a proven Premier League centre back, instead lets spend 5-7m on an unproven unknown 17 year old who will take years to reach a good level of consistency.

I have know problems signing projects unless they affect first time signings and this signing seems to be the case.

I'd take a look at City, Nastastasic has come good quickly and has a massive ceiling. If City keep him and Kompany fit they're going to a nightmare next season. If they'd taken your route then they could have wound up with another Lescott or Toure rather than someone who's not only strong now, but could play in the team for at least a decade.

Signing a proven CB doesn't fit our situation plus that extra £5m could go a fair way. We're still on a budget and that few million could be difference of missing out on Higuian or not pulling in a new GK or RB which is arguably much more important. We've got three proven CBs as it is, unless TV goes then there's no chance of that happening.

Who did you have in mind btw at a £10m CB? Only available player i can think of is Skrtel?

I believe he might be thinking Ashley Williams ? imo hes stil not proven if it is him anyway.

10m for a player who has had one season in the prem does not make him proven.

I would prefer to have Kos, Merts and Vermaelen and a up and coming player even if he is 17, Its not about age its more about quality.

Major issue here is IF he is as good as said and Zagreb rate him then its pretty simple. We won't stand a chance of getting him as the chairman there is nuts on player valuations, in fact wenger has said as much in the past about croatians being good players but zagreb having insane player valuations that put him off.

Yeah it was for Williams, apparently that is the price we are being quoted. Id have no problem signing both infact I would welcome both players coming into the club - especially as you highlight Nastic and that could well happen with Jedvaj - what I do not welcome is us not signing someone who can come in straight away with a proven record in the Premier League because his valuation is too high yet we are willing to spend 3m less on an unproven kid. We should not be signing projects at the expense of experienced players - just like with Sango and Higuain we should bring in both.

Yes thats the game, and @Tear-Griffin when talking about his price I was talking about my doubt that wenger would be willing to pay round 9 million pounds for a 17 year old defender. Of course we can get him if we want him but somehow I don0t think it's happening..

We got Eduardo for 10 mil. , hardly insane, Modric also repaid every cent to Sp**s and Kovacic is key player for Inter and also member of NT with only 18 years

Bearing in mind the stature of zagred and the croatian league the prices are still very high.

I'd rather take the money and buy chico off swansea as he is one of the top defenders in the league.

If Arsène wants a kid, he gets him. Considering how much weve paid for OX. 5M is nothing for Arsène if he really rates him.

Arsenal Quotes

In June 1996, David Dein, Peter Hill-Wood and Danny Fiszman came out to Nagoya to meet me on behalf of Arsenal. Within an hour we came to an agreement. The Japanese directors didn't try to keep hold of me in the usual way but talked with persuasive arguments... But as far as I was concerned, the decision was taken. Arsenal. A decision that would change my life.
