Leaked ESL document saying teams want to stay in domestic leagues and somehow support smaller clubs... :fibs:

This is coming from the same people that say that having to pay for luggage fees would keep flight prices down and that the nhs would be better off being privatized. :clown:

that the problem you players there days not loyal they just accept and move on.
Or just stop trying after getting their big contract.

Would be nice to see the players stand up for something they feel they believe in.

Don’t think its even much of a risk for them really, they’ll still be on a wage 95% of the world could never dream of.

Won’t happen though as mostly they believe in money alone like the rest of the football world. Its been said lots already but there really is no good guy in this at all.

UEFA/FIFA are ****. As are the clubs signing up to the ESL.

Only the fans will lose one way or another.

This has a WWF vs WCW type of feel to it. We all know how that ended.

I'm not surprised that the Kroenke's are a part of the Super League. As an American, I know that our sports culture prioritizes money ahead of the players and the community.

America has a multi-billion dollar amateur sports industry based on not paying college athletes. The coaches get paid millions and the schools make millions, but the athletes do not get paid.

It is normal for professional sports teams to move cities if they think another city or "market" will be more profitable. The Kroenke's recently relocated their NFL team from St. Louis to Los Angeles, and this was a totally normal thing to do. The people of St. Louis might be outraged, but their anger was meaningless because American sports values money over people. The Kroenke's believe that LA will make them more money, therefore the move is justified. End of story.

American sports also have drafts where the worst teams in the country get to select the best new players in the country. This would be the equivalent of requiring the best young player in England to play for Sheffield United, and the top teams get the leftovers. Also, the draft disincentivizes American sports teams from developing their own players and creating stronger roots in the community because the draft will just give them players for free. Also, these players have just left college sports, where they do not get paid, so they will gladly play for the worst team in the league because their main concern, and rightfully so, is to finally get paid. These athletes have been getting exploited for decades, so they really need the money, even if it means playing for the worst teams in the league.

Also, American sports won't even consider the idea of relegation because it could result in the teams losing money or going out of business.

Another crazy thing about American sports is that it is common for the taxpayers to pay for the construction of a stadium. Sports teams will send proposals to the government claiming that the creation of a stadium will provide an economic boost to the community, and therefore, the community needs to pay for the construction of the stadium because the community, and not the sports team, will benefit from the new stadium. Governments often agree with this nonsense, and have the public pay for their stadiums. It is normal for municipalities to divert spending from education and infrastructure to pay for stadiums.

American sports are structured so that the businesses survive at the expense of everything else. If your team is the worst in the league, you don't get relegated. Instead you get the best young player out of college. If attendance is down because people don't like watching your horrible team, then move to another city. They'll just be happy to have a team. If you need a new stadium in the city you're moving to then make the people pay for it with their taxes.

This is crazy, but just the norm in America.

The idea that the Kroenke's supported an idea that is completely disconnected from the people and their players because they believe it will make them money totally makes sense. The fact that they probably did not anticipate any massive repercussions also makes sense. These ideas are the foundation of American sports.

For ****s sake - even the future King is after us. You’d think as a Villa fan he'd be pleased they‘re probably going to win the league for the next 10 years. Prince Phillip will probably start haunting us, for good measure.

The only person I was interested in listening to regarding the ESL was Wenger. What he thought of the entire thing. I know he might not have lifted the CL and therefore will always have a question mark around him, but you can't question the guy's love for football and what he wants for the beautiful game.

Him saying the thing won't fly have some serious backing to it. He was right from the start when the money made what is now Chelsea FC. If was the beginning of the end. Mourinho and his oil sugar daddy spending their way to titles showed that clubs can do whatever they want without consequences and now we are here, even more clubs thinking they can do whatever want without consequences. There are already red flags against the ESL and some leagues are already taking a stand.

A lot of people here are calling on Bayern for how they have twisted the German league to benefit themselves but if you look at the entire history of the German league, Bayern has helped bankrupted clubs in the league multiple times. They even helped Dortmund, their rivals from bankruptcy. Every club has its wrongs and rights, but they taking a major stand something that is truly grotesque.
Maybe UEFA should’ve backed Wenger a little more when they had the chance instead of punishing clubs that abided by FFP rules and rigging games so their pet teams (Barcelona cough cough) can win often.

Did he ever said a word about the yankee Lerners mismanagement of Villa? Of course he didnt.

Still Pining for Wenger
Do these fat cats think?

Why not announce this after the CL final? Now they may lose out on CL/EL semi-final and final money over something that the various governments might come together to block.

Are they arrogant or just genuinely don't give a ****?

Kroenke in the mud, again.

People like the idea of playing top teams all the time.

The reason why they like it is because it doesn't happen often, even when we were in the CL regularly.

There's a reason the WC is the most prestigious trophy in the game, it's largely because it only occurs every 4 years.

We'd basically be in a perpetual knock out stage of the CL in terms of the quality of sides we played. Every week being on the end of a pasting from a top club would be too much for most of us to take, once the novelty wears off. I struggled with it when Barca and Bayern were pasting us in the round of 16 every year. No way could I put up with that weekly.

Going from a (sleeping) giant of English football to basically a minnow is not a what I want to happen to the club.

I see this type of comment about us becoming minnows in this ESL a lot. Is this a guaranteed outcome? Maybe like the PL it will lift clubs that enter it not in a great state today. Maybe it would first of all make us like Leicester in the PL. If all clubs are injected with money for transfers, the clubs with poorer squads have most potential to increase the quality of their squads? It would only work with PL participation also though, because otherwise I fear academy players will have an even harder pathway to break through.
