Martin Ødegaard: El Capitanø

Where Ødegaard has really improved over the last year and a bit is his leadership. He learned a lot from Xhaka. Feels like Xhaka may have been in his way a bit because Xhaka was the obvious leader on the pitch without being the captain, and now Martin feels freer. Ødegaard is no longer the quiet guy in the room.
Or maybe it has been Jorginho's influence if it has happened in the past year? ;)

Need to keep an eye out for similar signs, especially in the summer 2028 for the pattern from Madrid. They joined 7,5 years apart. MÖ10 & MØ10. It's like a myth.

Better start courting Mark O'Brien for succession planning.

Ødegaard is a lead by example type, nothing wrong with that either.

You could see when the players were huddled after coming out for the second half against Porto that Rice was the one giving the talk.

Good leadership combination really.

My assumption is that Ødegaard was so exhausted from all the pressing that he couldn't speak.

His passing was sloppy today but the ground that man covers over a full match is incredible and he did a good job of leading what we did defensively. He's maturing along with the rest of the team. Very proud of him today.

Not as clean on the ball but Arteta didn't set us up that way and his work off the ball is what makes him so unique. KDB was chasing shadows.

Had a few good moments first half on the ball, 2nd half he had a few really terrible passes. Offensively dissapointing. Put in an immense defensive shift 2nd half though and even crunched rodri a bit once, won the ball back importantly several times.

Agree with the sentiment that he covered a lot of ground defensively but wasteful in possession.

also in my opinion he was one of our best players today. with Gabriel my Mvp of today
He was pretty good defensively , recovered many balls, he was running and press all time and in attack guys he gave the 2 passes that took to our best chances. expecially the deep assist for Troussard that put in in front to Ortega was great. ok he also made some pass mistakes but against city and in final of a game where he run all the time i think we can excuse him for this :D. for me he had other great game

Offensively, I thought it was one of his poorer matches. Yes he worked of the ball which we appreciate and expect, but if he wants to be an elite player he needs to impact these difficult and important moments.

A bit underwhelming from him I didn't see anything worthy of praise. Another match he will get away with I guess.

He was our best offensive player, yet he was also underwhelming. No one felt comfortable on the ball today.

He gave it his all and he had a couple of sequences that on another day could have produced a goal or two. He can't unlock a defense with an aerial pass from range like Trent Alexander-Arnold or de Bruyne, but not many players can do that. His pressing is so important and infectious.
