Honestly don't understand the upset at playing young players out of position. Gets them used to handling uncomfortable situations, and if anything may lessen any loss of confidence that might come from not playing well. If you play badly in your preferred position then you have little to fall back on.

Especially at wingback, can't think of a better place to blood a young player in so long as they have the attributes to play there. Makes them have to hustle and defend, while also giving them opportunities to attack without being totally crucial to the overall creative build up.

Then they all go back to their regular positions in the U-23 team with that experience under their belt. Keeps 'em hungry to get to play there for the full team.

Kids these days need that sort of thing imo. Can't just have the world handed to them on a plate, they need to feel grateful for what they get.

It's one thing to play kids out of position in reserve games, another to play Maitland Niles in a new position every season. I am starting to wish we can just sell Maitland Niles and let him develop his career somewhere else, because it is clear Wenger has no clue as to what to do with him and has been reduced to the stage of throwing stuff on the wall and hoping it would stick. Niles is a more talented, less mature Alex Song, and he just needs confidence and experience. How can he possibly get those with what we are doing to him?

Oh my god!! the over reaction of the arm chair critics on where a player is supposed to be played. These are things better left to the manager and he knows better than most. And FYI, for all the talent that Nelson has, he is no Neymar or not even MBappe. He might develop into a fine player but none of those youngsters who played yesterday are as good as those world class talents at 18. The most important thing for a young player is to play at a higher level and see how it works out. Some take to it like MBappe/Cesc/Neymar did. Some like Isco etc develop and mature slowly.

Erm... we're all 'armchair critics'. That's kind of how football forums work. But you will get a few that come along and act like they've never had an opinion that's gone against that of the manager before. I love those posts really

Right wingback is the new right winger for Wenger. Remember when he used to play all young players on the right wing? Would have been glorious to see Bendtner in that position.

I'm sure we did at one stage. Or was it that he was supposed to be at CF and was hanging around on the wing for some or other reason?

The kids used to play slick football as well.
Yeah. I don't think we produce such talents in our academy anymore. The 'best' talent in our academy today may not even fit into the youth team from way back.
Even Senderous and Djorou as 'bad' as they were would comfortably play against Doncaster and even in some of our Europa league games today.

Wilshere - deployed at CM, AM, RW, LW.
Ramsey - CM, AM, RW, LW
Ox - RW, LW, CM, AM, RWB, LWB
Lolcott - RW, LW, CF
Iwobi - LW, RW, AM, CM
Chambers - RB, CB, DM.

and now

AMN, 20 years old - RW, CM, RB, CB, RWB, LWB.
Nelson (17) - RW, LW, AM, RWB.

Some of those positions aren't even compatible, FFS. What is the man playing at?
