James Maddison

Cant agree more.

And people seems to forget how our British core made our team shxt, with walcott, chamberlain, jankinson, ramsey, gibbs....

This generation of English players have improved a lot. England used to only have good defenders (their midfielders and attackers are not talented at all because they only focus on physicality). Nowadays, they have a lot of skillful dribblers and fullbacks. However, most of them are wide players, and except Foden, they still lack talented players who can play in the centre of the pitch, or a midfield mastero with a football brain.
Literally watches an Arsenal team with Smith Rowe and Saka and comes to this conclusion

One is a wide player and the other one is not Foden level. And could you name any one else? They have a lot more talent out wide.

Traditionally they play hoof ball and don’t need a football brain in the centre of the pitch. Scholes was an anomaly, Wilshere was half decent, but no one else. They never had many intelligent midfielders like the Spainish team does.

Are you going to start saying Gerrard and Lampard werent technical players again as well?

Saka has played brilliantly in midfield and im not getting in to an argument with you about who is what level.

You said "they still lack talented players who can play in the centre of the pitch, or a midfield mastero with a football brain."

So are you saying that about Saka and ESR or is the backtracking or goalpost moving going to begin? Or are you saying the above Esr and Saka?

They aren't midfield maestros. They are ball carriers/wingers.

A maestro is someone like Ødegaard, KDB, Cesc, Özil etc... Players who have a consistent final ball. Players who know when to speed up or slow down the attack, players who will top the assist charts.

As much as I rate Saka as an intelligent wide player. He can’t play CM like Scholes or AM like Iniesta.

So neither ESR or Saka can play in the centre of the pitch and have never played is what you said. The goalpost moving begins

Anyway back on topic, really hoping for Maddison, great touch, not a Messi on the dribbling scale but can beat a player. And obviously adds a massive threat from midfield especially on the counter and transitioning where weve been weak this season.

They can, but they are much better playing as wingers. Why sacrifice what they can offer out wide to play them central? ESR might become a CAM, but at the moment, he doesn't have a consistent final pass or the natural vision of a playmaker. He's a ball carrier, a link player, like Rosicky.

Im not arguing it, Football manager just said the entire pool of English players have not the footballing brain to play in midfield... except Foden 🤷‍♂️ Im not English I just think fm watches youtube compilations and very little football

edit: I think Est should be played centrally as a 10 or an 8 even if he is great on the wing.

We are not a small team that park the bus and play counter attack direct boring football. We need creativity and control. No more direct players. We need link up players.

Maddison is literally one of the best link up players in the premiership... Partey and possibly a new cm behind him to keep the ball moving whether through the centre or to the flanks. What are you objecting to there?

We could have had a midfield like this. It’s very said we have missed out on Buendia.

Damsgaard (Hleb)
Saka
Pepe
Aouar (Nasri)
ESR (Rosicky)
Buendia (Cazorla)
Partey (Flamini)

After we fixed our midfield. All we need is to get our van persie and sanchez.

I mean, he's not exactly wrong. I'd argue that Foden and Grealish are both better as left wingers too. Foden might potentially end up central but they don't understand tempo yet.

Neither Mount or Maddison are creative enough to be top attacking mids imo, not from open play.

Arsenal Quotes

It was a unique moment, a football fairytale. Was there anyone left who still believed I could give that kind of performance? Probably only Arsène Wenger.
