He keeps scoring and making good runs, finding the right positions to go with his all-round game, he'll become one sooner or later. Iwobi's almost too versatile for his own good.I still don't see why Iwobi can't be a central striker.
This is it. He's keeping it basic, simplifying. It's not ideal but it's a start. He looks better and more threatening in the Arsenal team than he does in any of the teams he's been on loan at.It can't be a coincidence that Akpom keeps scoring. They've both been bad but at least one has natural striker instincts.
To be fair I think it is all about getting balanced team that play together week and week out. I think he needs players who are on same wavelength. Today was all Iwobi show and Akpom and Willock got lost in all that.
If we do not sign striker and Akpom scores in next friendly I see no other than playing him at the start of the season. His movement is good but his involvement is lacking. I think that can be improved up on bit more sharpness and team cohesion!
Yeah, Iwobi has not only grown as a player but he's also grown in stature. He's become a very big personality in the Arsenal team, whereas players like Willock and even Akpom are feeling their way into contention rather than grabbing it with both hands the way Iwobi did in such a short space of time. I think that's why Jeff is so close - big personality.
I will always maintain that Akpom's development was harmed by the signing of Sanogo. His opportunities should have been Akpom's IMO, that's when he was hot, he was raw but he was 17 and scoring for fun at youth level. Getting a proper run at that time would have been far more beneficial to him and his development than the sh*t loans he went on. Granted, he didn't perform well on them, but not all young loanees do before they get the opportunity and end up succeeding. He should have played here.
Akpom's at least starting to use his movement again. He's getting in good positions in the box and finding the net. A goal's a goal. He just needs to keep getting in those positions in competitive games. Especially if he does get the nod for Arsenal at some point in the first set of games this season. The rest will come if he keeps scoring.
